Assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia Youssif Omar was charges with assaulting a 14 year-old relative who was not wearing a hijab.

According to the Columbia Tribune, 53-year-old Youssif Omar was arrested Wednesday at his home and he was subsequently booked into the Boone County Jail for allegedly assaulting a 14 year-old relative.
According to Omar’s LinkedIn page, he is an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia as well as manages the University Bookstore.
Both Omar and the alleged victim were at Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri on Tuesday, when Omar allegedly became irate that the young girl was not wearing a hijab. A hijab is a traditional Muslim headscarf.
Officer Latisha Stroer told the Columbia Tribune that Omar grabbed her violently by the hair, slapped and drug her down the stairs by her hair and into his own car.
