Do you know if you have a vitamin A deficiency? Most people don’t. It seems that vitamin A is drowned out by talk of energy producing B-vitamins, or the immune boosting vitamin C. But vitamin A is just as important, especially if you have a vitamin A deficiency.
Vitamin A is responsible for many functions within the body. It’s responsible for eye health, for the immune system to produce white blood cells to fight infection, as well as respiratory, urinary, and intestinal health. Plus it helps to create the mucous membranes! Vitamin A is beneficial for your eye health, your immune, health, and so many other areas of the body.

There are some specific signs and symptoms that tell you whether or not you may have a vitamin A deficiency and those are discussed in this video:

About 90% of vitamin A is stored in your liver so it also impacts and improves liver health. In order to have sufficient levels of vitamin A you need to eat vitamin A rich foods to ensure that you do not have a deficiency. Conversely, if you have a vitamin A deficiency you’ll definitely want to make it a habit to eat these foods more often to feed your body and restore your levels.

The Top 9 Foods That Contain Vitamin A

1. Carrots
2. Sweet Potatoes
3. Apricots
4. Grapefruit
5. Spinach
6. Free Range Pastured Organic Eggs
7. Meat (specifically kidney & liver)
8. Cantaloupe
9. Pumpkins

You’ll notice that on the above list of foods most of these foods are orange in color. This is because whole foods (fruits & veggies) that are orange in color tend to be richer in carotenoids and beta-carotene which are sources of vitamin A. So be sure to eat orange fruits and vegetables in general as they may contain more vitamin A! Vitamin A is also known as retinol (in case this has confused you in the past).
