BRANSON, Mo. — The owners of Shepherd of the Hills in Branson have told their employees the live show production will shut down this year after 54 years.
The final performance, according to the attraction’s website, is scheduled for Saturday, October 19.
In a letter posted on the Shepherd of the Hills Facebook page, owners Gary and Pat Snadon cite health issues, rising costs of insurance, taxes and dwindling attendance numbers as the reason.
In posts on the page, they say the historic Old Matt homestead will be maintained and Christmas events will be held.
They posted: “Very, very sad day for us. Official announcement coming in the morning, we wanted to give our Shepherd family time to absorb the news. It’s become impossible to continue with the show, the historic homestead will still be maintained and the Christmas activities will go on as scheduled. A huge chunk of our heart will be missing. It was a much agonized over decision, and only after every other option was exhausted. Would love it if someone else could acquire it and save this important landmark.”
