|Welcome to Dallas – Jonathan Daniel|
Thank you chicago for the best 5 years of my life!…. I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my life… With a star on my helmet.
Details are still pending, but word is that this is a multi-year deal. Melton is 27 years old and the Cowboys are making a play to get the best years out of him. And, also according to Fisher, Jared Allen is still a target. The Melton signing may actually make it easier to work out a deal with Allen, since the overall quality of the defensive line just got a major upgrade. And Anthony Spencer is also still a factor on a D line that suddenly looks a lot better.
And now, Joey has his lead dog.
Looks like the Cowboys got a good deal this time.
The contract is reportedly a one-year deal with a club option for three more, depending on Melton’s performance in 2014. The price figures to be a bit lower than expected for one of the league’s top defensive tackles, as Melton missed the majority of 2013 with an ACL injury. Financial details have not been disclosed, but Melton’s price tag would increase if he is brought back.
