(AccuWeather.com) - A strong earthquake struck Ecuador early Wednesday morning local time, the United States Geological Survey said.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The epicenter was located 34 kilometers (21 miles) west-northwest of Rosa Zarate, Ecuador, with a depth of 32.4 kilometers (20 miles). The quake occurred at 2:57 a.m. Wednesday morning local time (3:57 a.m. EDT).

No tsunami is expected as a result of the earthquake, the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center said.

Other nearby locations which felt the quake include Muisne, Pedernales and Santo Domingo.

This earthquake may be an aftershock of a powerful and deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake which struck Ecuador last month, leaving more than 600 people dead and over 10,000 injured.
