(WJ) - Former Republican and Libertarian Party presidential candidate Ron Paul has indicated who has his support in the 2016 presidential race.

“I said if the independents, who don’t know what to do and who should they pick, I say if you tend to lean towards progressivism and liberalism and you’re interested in expressing yourself, you can vote for the Green Party,” he said during a Monday interview on MSNBC.

While Paul would not issue an official endorsement of Stein, he did say his views on foreign policy most closely align with her.

“I think she’s probably best on foreign policy at the moment,” he said.

Although a Libertarian himself, Paul would not endorse Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, and seems unimpressed by the former New Mexico governor’s candidacy.

“On Gary Johnson, he does not come across with a crisp libertarian message,” said Paul.

Despite praise for Stein, Paul made it clear that he has not made any official endorsement for president.

“I have not told any supporters who are interested for whom they should vote,” he said.

Paul also said he believes the notion that a third party candidate could cause the election to swing in favor of Republican nominee Donald Trump or Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton isn’t accurate.

“I think that when push comes to shove and the election comes up, those people who won’t be voting Republican or Democrat are going to be very small,” he said.

Paul said it is tough for true Libertarian minded people to choose between the two parties because both of them are equally good and equally bad on liberty issues.
